Chinook Salmon Fat Meter Measurements from the 2020 Albion Test Fishery

Distell fat meter (model FFM-692) measurements were taken from Chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha, collected in 2020 near Maple Ridge, BC on the Fraser River as part of the Fisheries and Oceans Canada-run Chinook test fishery. The test fishery completes two drifted gill net sets per day from mid-April to November. Salmon length and weight measurements were also collected on board the gill net vessel, and a scale sample was taken for genetic stock identification. Chinook were identified to management unit (MU), groupings of Chinook conservation units categorized by shared life history traits. Fat meter measurements were converted to whole body lipid content measurements using a calibration described in the Lerner & Hunt [2023]. Data was collected from 1,566 individuals and was used to determine MU-specific Chinook lipid content.
