Description
UNCHAIN deliverable D3.4 is a collection of twelve reports describing the lessons learned in the twelve UNCHAIN case studies. This report presents the findings of Case Study 3, titled “Economic effects of adapting critical infrastructure in the Mannheim metropolitan area”. It describes how the Vulnerability Sourcebook method for co-producing climate Impact Chains was applied in the case study, characterizes the results, and details the achieved innovations of the Impact Chain method. Case Study 3 shows how to combine different levels of scale, by starting with relevant parts of existing national Impact Chains, building regional Impact Chains based on these parts, and pinpointing risk factors from the regional Impact Chains to corporate units, processes, and activities (the corporate Value Chain). Regarding economic effects, the study assessed the impact of more frequent periods of low water of the Rhine River on costs of inland waterway transport of large volume goods for energy production.
