Description
The acceptance and commitment therapy (АСТ) – one of the modern psychotherapeutic directions that are gaining authority in working with the consequences of mental trauma. The general goal of providing psychological help in АСТ is the development of psychological flexibility as the ability to be aware of the current internal experience, test reality and build one's behavior in accordance with the chosen values (motives) despite pain and suffering. The goal of trauma focused psychotherapy in the direction of АСТ is to transform the function of intractable pain in order to find a way to improve the quality of life, despite the presence of painful memories and suffering. Components of psychological flexibility that determine six areas of psychotherapeutic work in AST («hexaflex» model): awareness (presence here and now), acceptance (ability to be open to what is happening), values, cognitive disentanglement (flexible response to thoughts), commitment to action (motivated action), self-as-context (the observing self).
