Description
The research intersection between games, tourism, and sustainability is still inadequate, and there is an opportunity for games to provide solutions for complex issues, such as environmental sustainability. This research aims to describe the design process of an electronic serious game called Arise: Jakarta Tenggelam. Jakarta today, is known as the capital city of Indonesia and still plays an important role in Indonesian tourism. On the other hand, Jakarta is estimated to be sunk in 2050 by the fact that every year Jakarta is going down by an average of 1–15 cm/year. The Design Play Experience will be used as a framework to find learning value from both sides: from students as players and from game designers’ perspectives. An electronic board game called Arise: Jakarta Tenggelam is introduced to students to learn about complex issues. Data is collected through interviews and students' reflective notes about the game. Secondary data is also gathered from various sources, namely academic journals and online media. data is analyzed through domain analysis to find key domains to be presented. It found that games can be used to promote the idea of environmental problems and can potentially be used to engage students in learning about important issues in sustainable tourism. The implication is to find a new way to make the game better by adding new features and looking into how games can be used to find ways to save Jakarta as a place for the next generation to visit.
