Description
Dickeya dianthoicola is a quarantine organism. Dickeya bacteria are constantly present in Polish potato seed plantations, although the number of infected potato plants is low. D. solani was detected in 16 potato samples, D. dianthicola in 3. As a polyphage, it infects various plant species, but it poses a particular threat to the potato, whose area under cultivation in 2017 was 329,300 hectares. In the countries of the European Union, Dickeya dianthoicola, under the name Erwinia chrysanthemi pv. dianthicola (Hellmers) Dickey is subject to mandatory control only on plants of the Dianthus L. genus intended for planting, other than seeds.
