Ekspresowa Analiza Zagrożenia Agrofagiem: 'Candidatus Phytoplasma solani'

Description

Under favorable environmental conditions, 'Candidatus Phytoplasma solani' can cause serious losses in economically important crops in Poland, such as corn, grapevine, potato and tomato. With the current climatic conditions in Poland, the occurrence and severity of the disease caused by 'Ca. P. solani' is incidental and remains at a low level. However, it should be emphasized that this pathogen has a great potential for crop pathogenicity due to the wide range of plant hosts, some of which are also natural reservoirs of the pathogen. The complete species composition of all host plants of 'Ca. P. solani', and reports of new host plants appear successively, every few years. The pathogenic potential of 'Ca. P. solani' is also enhanced by the fact that there is a large group of insect species with the ability to transmit it. In the case of insects, also the complete list of vectors of this pathogen is not known, which makes it very difficult to predict its future impact on crops. In addition, 'Ca. P. solani' does not require crop plants to persist in nature and complete its life cycle, as a significant portion of the pathogen's population inhabits wild plants, which are also favored by insects carrying 'Ca. P. solani'. Given the above, it becomes practically impossible to completely eradication of this pathogen from the environment.
