Description

This article aimed to carry out a bibliometric analysis, in the two largest indexing databases of scientific works in the world, regarding the teaching of Mathematics through the methodological approach Problem-Based Learning. The development of critical thinking represents a growing demand in today's society, hence the interest in measuring the volume of publications in journals included in these indexing bases. To verify the productions on the subject using the Science Mapping approach using various search terms. The process was refined until the searches presented robust data to issue a conclusion. Thus, the time frame was delimited from 2012 to 2020. There was a growth of around 42.49% in works that address the study of Mathematics through Problem-Based Learning aimed at critical thinking with a great increase in occurrences from de 2018. However, what can be seen is that this topic represents a tiny portion of the research carried out in Mathematics or, despite the relevance of studying critical thinking, the major academic journals tend to publish other topics. However, Asian authors emerge with a large participation in publications, but the preference for citations of American authors to the detriment of the others still persists.
