Description

Patent filings can be a proxy for the intention to exploit research and development activities, and thus are a signal of the innovation process. In this paper we present the results of our latest analysis on a dataset of retrieved patent documents concerned with the most recent innovation in Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) immunotherapy. We show activity of inventors and applicants, innovation centres, innovation networks and preferred territories of patent protection. Citation analysis reveals high-impact patents. Investment in patent protection shows the commitment of organisations to innovation in CAR immunotherapy and beyond. We provide all necessary materials, search strategy, datasets, and methods to enable third parties to carry out subsequent analyses at their own convenience. This paper is based on research commissioned by the European Patent Office (EPO).
