Description

Navigation is the most essential of autonomous mobile robots that can be highly challenging due to the complexity and level of dynamicity in the tasks and environment. A mobile robot should figure out all feasible paths to navigate safely from a start position to a target position. It should employ strategies such as localization, wall-following, obstacle avoidance, and target-approaching while choosing the best feasible path. Intelligent and knowledge-based systems can aid to find an optimal navigation path. Most review reports focus on a specific category of navigation techniques. Therefore, it is essential to describe strategies and features of the different categories of navigation techniques for autonomous mobile robots in one report. This paper reviews most of the intelligent navigation techniques for mobile robots, then compares these methods and discusses their performance and efficiency in terms of a number of important criteria such as path length and collision rate.
