Die Erebien der Schweiz (Lepidoptera: Satyrinae, Genus Erebia)

Peter Sonderegger (1942‒2017) was an eminent Swiss lepidopterist and entomologist (Albrecht 2017; for the complete citation of this necrology, see section 'References' below). In 2005, Peter published his masterpiece, Die Erebien der Schweiz, a major contribution to the knowledge of Swiss butterflies, for which he was awarded the Prix Moulines by the Swiss Entomological Society (SES) also in 2005. Because his book was published privately, it may well not have received the widespread recognition that it undoubtedly deserves. Therefore, the SES decided, together with Peter's family, to make a digital copy available via Zenodo (December 7, 2022). The SES is grateful to the library of the ETH Zurich for enabling the digitalization of this important publication.

Original abstract in English
There is reportet about 26 species of the Genus Erebia (Lepidoptera: Satyrinae) in Switzerland. At the beginning aspects about morphology and ecology of the egg, caterpillar, pupa and imago (46 pages) are described. In addition some perceptions about extension / zoo geography (37 pages) are mentioned. It is the first time that chalk favoring species and post glacial remigration paths as well as itself precluding species is recognized. In the chapter systematic / classification / taxonomy specific and infra specific categories, individual and geographic variations are presented and described (30 pages). Then the 26 species in Switzerland are discussed (459 pages) according to the following structure: taxa, identification, individual and geographic variation, classification / nomenclature, distribution with a 5 km net map, habitats, seasonal developments, egg, caterpillar, pupa, literature and hazard of the species. The imagines are presented as 50, the caterpillars as 8 and the male genitalia as 15 plates (colored and black and white). Finally literature and keyword folders are added.

Es werden 26 Arten des Genus Erebia (Lepidoptera: Satyrinae) der Schweiz abgehandelt. Zuerst werden Aspekte über Morphologie und Ökologie von Ei, Raupe, Puppe und Imago beschrieben (46 Seiten). Dann folgen einige Erkenntnisse zur Verbreitung / Zoogeografie (37 Seiten). Erstmals werden kalkliebende Arten und nacheiszeitliche Rückwanderungswege sowie sich ausschliessende Arten erkannt. Im Kapitel Systematik/ Klassifikation / Taxonomie werden spezifische und infraspezifische Kategorien sowie individuelle und geografische Variation dargestellt und beschrieben (30 Seiten). Dann werden die 26 Arten der Schweiz abgehandelt (459 Seiten) und zwar nach folgendem Muster: Taxa, Identifikation, Individuelle und geografische Variation, Klassifikation / Nomenklatur, Verbreitung mit 5 km-Netz-Karte, Lebensräume, Jahreszeitliche Entwicklung, Ei, Raupe, Puppe, Literatur und Gefährdung der Art. Die Imagines werden auf 50, die Raupen auf 8 und die männlichen Genitalstrukturen auf 15 Tafeln (farbig und schwarzweiss) dargestellt. Am Schluss folgen Literatur- und Sachwortverzeichnis.
