Description
Under the keyword of cultural participation, public cultural funding in Western Europe has recently been focusing on enhancing accessibility, distributional justice and decentralization in the art field. This development faces an art world that has integrated participatory approaches in its canon, while at the same time insisting on certain discursive logics and expectations. Against this backdrop, the contribution discusses two participation-oriented practice contexts in the state of Salzburg, Austria, and raises questions as to their potential to disrupt the dominant position of the institutionalized art world.
