Description

Objectives. This study explored Early Maladjustment Schemas among teenagers with type 1 diabetes mellitus and examined potential moderating roles for body mass index, age, glycated haemoglobin and illness duration. Methods. The sample included 132 teenagers with type 1 diabetes hospitalized in Mother and Child Institute, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The Young Schema Questionnaire-Short Form (YSQ-S3R) was used to assess early maladjustment schemas. Results. Findings showed that teenage patients with type 1 diabetes had high scores on a number of early maladjustment schemas, including self-sacrifice, approval seeking/ recognition seeking, unrealistic standards/hypercriticism and negativity/ passivity. Moreover, the results supported a significant correlation between early maladjustment schemas, body mass index, illness duration, glycated haemoglobin. Conclusions. Medical and mental health professionals may find these results helpful for assessment, treatment, and prevention goals in patients with type 1 diabetes
