Description

The Philodromidae are represented by 30 genera, eight are known from the Afrotropical
Region and six from South Africa where it is represented by 34 species. Only one genus
Tibellus has been revised. Most of the genera of the Philodromidae are very commonly
sampled from plants with only a few genera and species found living on the ground. During
SANSA surveys >2243 accessions were deposited in the National Collection of Arachnida
but of these accessions 46% were not identified to species level. Of the 34 species
presently recorded from South Africa, 30 have a wide distribution and is listed of Least
Concern with only three Philodromus species and a single Thanatus that are data deficient.
