- 1. Philosopher
Description
Claudius Ptolemy (c. 100 – c. 170 CE) wrote various scientific treatises about astronomy, mathematics and other fields. This is Ptolemy's first printed edition of his book Almagest, produced around 150 CE, published in Venice in 1515. The same book is based on the Latin translation made by Gerard of Cremona (c. 1114–1187) in Toledo, Spain, around 1175. In point of fact, Gerard worked from Arabic manuscripts, which were themselves translations of the Greek original.
