TeMa Tools: A multilingual & multiformat education toolkit for aquatic fungi
- 1. Systematic Biology, Institute for Organismal Biology, Uppsala University, Sweden
- 2. MARE - Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra, Portugal
Description
Most people are surprised when they learn that some fungi live in water. Does this mean that there are mushrooms in lakes? Is it safe to swim? What do they do there? For real? In teaching and outreach, these kinds of questions are great starting points for conversations about fungi, biodiversity, healthy ecosystems, food webs, impacts of pollution and climate change and much more. Simply said, the TeMa Tools are designed to support and encourage these conversations—including across ages, languages, and learning styles. The toolkit includes these print-ready files:
- An introduction file with information about the tools and tips for use
- Posters and customizable poster templates to attract attention at outreach events
- Information cards with helpful graphics in 25 languages
- Printable 3D model of a Tetracladium marchalianum spore –to make this microscopic fungus touchable and tangible
