Open research requires a change in research culture
Description
Presentation given on 21 September 2022 at the conference "Research Culture – Perspectives from Ireland and Beyond"
Open science opens the processes of scientific knowledge creation and increases scientific collaborations and sharing of information for the benefits of science and society. Open science requires a change in research culture. In particular, it requires a change in the approach of carrying out and evaluating research – a shift from an emphasis on publications of mainly positive results to the sharing of all available knowledge, such as research hypotheses, methods and techniques, research data and software at various stages of the research process. In my talk, I will explain how NWO, the Dutch Research Council, stimulates open science and contributes to research culture change through policies and requirements, through investments and financial support, and through incentives and rewards.
