Synthesis, Characterization and Relative Cristallinity Estimate da Cristalinidade of Composites of Bentonite and Chitosan Beta

Description

The use of the philosophy of Green Chemistry in chemical research is practiced most of the time, however it is not emphasized. In this work, Green Chemistry plays a major role in the synthesis of nanocomposites from bentonites and beta chitosan. From the lower amount of chitosan in the pseud state with respect to clay minerals, there were obtained nanocomposites chitosan-clay minerals, wich are characterized by infrared spectophotometry and X-ray diffractometry. The measures width value at half height by the Scherrer Method of the peak major intensity in the diffractograms were 1.51, 0.39 and 0.26, respectively for chitosan, sodium bentonite and calcium bentonite and for formed composites 0.49 and 0.36, respectively (chitosan + sodium bentonite) and (chitosan + calcium bentonite). Thus, the values follow the sequence accordinhg to cristallinity: calcium bentonite > sodium bentonite > chitosan and for the composites (chitosan + calcium bentonite) > chitosan + sodium bentonite). Concerning the final product, we can conclude that, probably, the chitonsan interacted from the hydrogen bonds, with the boundary and other regions of the basal spacing of the bentonites, other than in the interlamellar space. Other than hand, the presence of chitosan in the clay minerals, promoted decrease of the cristallinity index, verificated by the increase in the with values at half height, however, the cristallinity index evalueted from the original values of the bentonites, indicating the formation of the products.
