Development of social stereotypes Tool to Measure In-group and Out-group Favoritism among Different social Categories

The present work was designed to develop a stereotype tool to measure ingroup /out-group favoritism among different social categories namely general category, other backward category and scheduled caste/scheduled tribe category. Initially and open-ended interview was conducted to know the characteristics of stereotypes related to a given social category. the interview conducted with the members of all three social categories. They were asked about typical stereotype related to their own category as well as other two social categories. On the basis of this interview, a wide range of stereotypes related to these three social categories were generated. further, on the basis of these concepts, the item of the tool; were developed in question forms. The initial form of the question was devised a four-point scale to response. Item analyses were done on a separate sample taken from all three social categories. the final version of the test has 38 items in which 22 are positive items and 16 were negative items. The psychometric properties of the test were established by using different statistics. An alpha was also computed. The reliability coefficient of the test is very high. The content validity was also established by an inter-rater analysis, and it was also found to be good.
