Description
The present study addressed the pattern of negative self-stereotype, perceived discrimination and wellbeing in different social categories namely general category, other backward category, scheduled caste/scheduled tribe category. data were collected from 90 (30 general categories, 30 other backward categories and 30 scheduled caste/scheduled tribe category) students of undergraduate and post graduate courses. Stereotypes scale, Discrimination scale, and Subjective Wellbeing questionnaire were used. Results indicate that members of scheduled caste category adopted negative self-stereotyping instead of high subjective wellbeing. They are also victim of perceived discrimination in comparison to general and other backward categories. Thus, it can be concluded that scheduled caste category members are using self-protective strategies for their self-inconsistencies and experiencing high wellbeing in spite of having discrimination.
