The Path to Liberation through Disengagement (nivṛtti) in Early Ayurveda

The ancient Indian medical treatise, The Compendium of Caraka (Carakasaṃhitā) includes much philosophical and religious material. In this talk, I explore the dual concepts of pravṛtti and nivṛtti, the contrasting directions of attending to the world of sense experience and outward engagement as opposed to introversion and disengagement from the world.
