Hardware Design and Functional Programming: a Perfect Match

This paper aims to explain why I am still fascinated by the use of functional languages in hardware design. I hope that some readers will be tempted to tackle some of the hard problems that I outline in the final section. In particular, I believe that programming language researchers have much to contribute to the field of hardware design.
