ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF NANOCELLULOSE ADDITIVES IN PORTLAND CEMENT
Description
and environmental impact on the production of cementitious building materials is not well documented. In this study, the cost and global warming potential (GWP) of a nanocellulose-Portland cement (PC) composite material is evaluated through a literature review of cradle-to-gate life cycle assessments and current costs provided by manufacturers. The results show that a nanocellulose-PC composite of 0.2% volume nanocellulose has a GWP between -0.15% to 119.72%, and a cost between 43% to 830%, of that of PC, depending on the type of nanocellulose used.
