As per the international standards, particles within 100 nm or so with one or more dimensions are called as nanoparticles. Application of nanomaterials in different sectors has increased significantly because of its superiority over bulk particles in properties. The whole new properties of NPs are mostly due to their high surface area in comparison to their volume. They exhibit enhanced properties like mechanical, electrical, magnetic, optical, sensitivity, better reactivity, long durability, etc. over their bulk because of their surface to volume ratios. They are suitable candidates for various commercial and house hold applications which includes cosmetics, electronics, catalysis, imaging, medical, conventional and unconventional energy-based research, environmental applications etc. Due to such variation nanoparticles are synthesised by various physical, chemical and biological methods for mass production and that also has seen a tremendous growth over time. This chapter discuss mainly synthesis, Characterisation and applications of nanoparticles in almost all the fields.
