Description
This study proposes a rational methodology for the numerical simulation of embedment phenomena on bamboo. The study adopts the foundation modeling approach, and proposes a rational procedure for the determination of foundation zone size and material properties. Foundation zone material properties are nominal embedment properties, determined via the dowel bearing test. Foundation zone depth occurs rationally from analytical equations that describe the stress field of the culm in the bolt vicinity. Comparison between experimental and numerical model results verify the applicability of the proposed approach for the prediction of experimental strength and stiffness of dowel-bearing tests and bamboo bolted connections.
