Description
Cicer arietinum a potent medicinal plant in the Indian systems of medicine. Traditionally it is used as antibacterial, antifungal, antipyretic, antidiarrhoeal etc. In the present study the hydroalcoholic extract of the stem and leaf of Cicer arietimun were studied for their antibacterial activity by disc diffusion method against different gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis) and gram negative (Escherchia coli) bacteria and antifungal activity were also carried out by using same method against two fungal strains Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It was observed that the hydroalcoholic extract of stem and leaf showed significant activity against all bacterial and fungal strains tested here and the hydroalcoholic extract of stem showed the higher activity as compare to Hydroalcoholic extract of leaf.
