The Role of GGBFS as a Promoter for Un-Calcined Kaolinite Based (Hydrosodalite Based) Geopolymer

Authors/Creators

Description

Abstract— Un-calcined kaolinite based (hydrosodalite based)
geopolymers are good candidate as a green building material. Its
higher productivity with heat curing method promising for widening
industrial applications. The main drawback of these materials is
their low strength. In this study high reactive ground granulated
blast furnace slag (GGBFS) blended with kaolinite up to 40 wt.%.
Compressive strength, behavior against water, phase structure and
microstructureofthesampleswereinvestigatedsystematically.It’s
clear from the results that GGBFS is very good candidate to enhance
this type of green materials in industrial applications. GGBFS
enhanced mechanical properties and behavior against the water of
the sample significantly. Optimum compressive strength obtained
was 11.2 MPa at 20 wt.% GGBFS addition, while reference samples
recorded as 3.1 MPa.
