Description

This paper forms part of work on options to address digital sequence information under the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and related instruments and processes. The paper addresses the sharing of digital sequence information in the context of the need to generate monetary benefits for investments in biodiversity and a need to invest in the sustainability of the biodiversity and life science infrastructure.

The paper argues that these twin demands could be met by combining the use of open licences for genetic sequence data with revenue generation models to be implemented as part of a Distributed Global Biodiversity Fund linked to the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.
