STUDIES ON THE REACTION BETWEEN CUPRIC AND THIOSULPHATE IONS IN SOLUTION

Authors/Creators

Description

The reaction between Cu2+ and S2O32- in solution has been studied by thermometric and conductometric titrations and absorption measurements. Reactions are indicated when Cu2+ and S2O32-  ions are present in solution in the molar ratios of  I:6, I: 3, 4 : O and 2 : 3 respectively, indicating the formation of yen ions complex cuprothioslphates in solution.

It has been found that bivalent copper is completely reduced to the monovalent state when g moles of S2O32-  have been added to 4 moles of Cu2+ and a probable mechanism underlying the redaction has been suggested.
