ION-EXCHANGE REACTIONS WITH HETEROIONIC SYNTHETIC RESINS. PART II. ANION EXCHANGE
Authors/Creators
Description
Ion-exchange reactions with an anion-exchange resin, saturated with two different types of anions at different degrees of saturation, against a third anion have been studied by equilibrium method. Exchange of the more replaceable ion appears to increase and the less replaceable ion is suppressed; the interaction goes on increasing with the degree of saturation of the complementary ion. Of the three anions studied: CI-. NO3- and SO4 2- when one of the saturating ions is SO4 2- the total exchange comes out to he antagonistic. The order of introduction of the SO4 2- affects its release, showing that when it is introduced first it can take up exchange sites of higher binding energy. The structure of the strong base-anion exchange resin of polyammine type differs from that of sulphonated polystyrene resin a strong acid cat ion exchanger.
