Scientific Publishing: a brief history and where do we go from here?
Description
A talk given by Vicky Hellon at a Lunch and Learn at the Alan Turing Institute. The talk covered the history of scientific publishing, from the establishment of early journals to the commercialisation of publishing houses and recent innovations such as the open access movement, preprints and funder-led journals. The talk also considered how journal policies influence how we do science and impact research culture in general, whilst looking at what could be next for scholarly communications.
