Revised version with more analysis suggested by reviewers of the manuscript. Main changes:

• Descriptive analysis of the matrix land uses (matrix composition) for the landscapes in high- and low-quality matrix regions.
• Including trait Hand-wing index as an important trait for dispersal ability.
• Robustness analysis of the combined models with only the species that occur at both high- and low-quality matrix landscapes. New appendix 4 with the results.
