Synthesis of lsoquinolines : A Rearrangement in Pictet-Gam's Reaction

Description
Pictet-Gam's cyclisation of the amide (VII) has been conclusively shown to yield the rearranged product (VI) and not the expected compound (V). Similar aryl migrations have also been shown to occur with three other amides (XII), (XX) and (XXIV).
