Др Михаило Гавриловић – историчар, први управник Државног архива Краљевине Србије / Mihailo Gavrilović, Ph.D. – Historian, the First Manager of the State Archives of the Kingdom of Serbia

Историчар Михаило Гавриловић радом, ставовима и стваралаштвом обележио је српску научну мисао крајем 19. и почетком 20. века. Као први Србин који је докторирао на Универзитету у Паризу 1899. године, стекао је знање неопходно за примењивање важећих метода европске науке и стварање нових научних дела.

Упознавши се током студија са достигнућима француске културе и цивилизације, Гавриловић је по повратку, својим радом доприносио даљем културном развитку Србије.

Именован за управника Државног архива у периоду од 1900. до 1911. године, од Архива Краљевине Србије створио је, по узору на европске архивистичке службе, модерну установу за чување грађе.

Као историчар, др Михаило Гавриловић писао је научне радове након темељних и стручних архивских истраживања, инсистирајући на тачности података. Тако су настала оригинална дела, која су постала узор у даљем развитку српске историографије.

Historian Mihailo Gavrilović marked Serbian scientific thought at the end of the 19^th and the beginning of the 20^th century with his work, attitudes, and creativity. He was the first Serb to receive his doctorate from the University of Paris, in 1899. Thanks to his education abroad, he became acquainted with European tradition and culture and gained new knowledge and experience necessary for the application of valid methods of European science in the creation of original scientific works. His insight into the achievements of French culture and civilization enabled Mihailo Gavrilović to contribute to the further cultural development of Serbia upon his return to the country. Appointed manager of the State Archives for the period from 1900 to 1911, he transformed the Archives of the Kingdom of Serbia into a modern institution for storing materials, following the practice of European archival institutions. As a historian, Mihailo Gavrilović wrote scientific papers after thorough and professional archival research, always insisting on the accuracy of the data. With a scientific approach, based on the study of the past by researching archival material, Gavrilović established a new direction in contemporary Serbian historiography.
