The pKa values of salicylic acid and 5-chloro- and 5-Bromo-salicylic acids in methanol+water mixtures (8 — 87.9 wt % of methanol) were determined using the conductometric method suggested by Gelb with a slight modification. The results have been further verified by Fouss-Kraus method. The limitations of the present state of knowledge of solution chemistry in accounting for the variations of the dissociation constants with solvent composition have been stressed.
