Manuscript received 13 March 1976; revised 29 May 1976; accepted 20 July 1976

A paper chromatographic technique has been adopted to separate UO2(II) from Th(IV), Ce(III), Fe(III) and Zr(IV) in binary and ternary combinations using a solvent consisting of chloroform acetone-amyl alcohol and concentrated hydrochloric acid (12:6:6:1v/v). A direct photodensitometric method of evaluating unknown quantitatively from strips run simultaneously for known and unknown has been described, which proved better in comparison to other known methods of direct spot evaluation. The procedure appears to be useful for estimating UO2(II) within concentration range < 50 µg.
