Mixed ligand complexes of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) containing ethyl xanthate and 1,10 phenanthroline or 2, 2' bipyridyl have been prepared through a two step process. In the first step [M(LN2)(H2O)4]2+ is prepared which in the second step on interaction with ethylxanthate results in the replacement of the four water molecules by two xanthate molecules. The composition of the complexes has been determined by radiometric, amperometric and potentiometric titrations and by chemical analysis of the isolated complexes. Infrared spectra show the binding of the xanthate and 1,10 phenanthroline or 2, 2' bipyridyl to the metal.
