It has been observed that phosphates retard the nitrogen loss forming stable compounds like ammonium phosphate. Wheat-straw helped in checking the nitrogen loss and increasing the available N and P2O5 contents. \(p\)H of the samples was also found to be affected by phosphate, nitrogen and carbon interactions. This finding was substantiated by laboratory and pot experiments conducted with alluvial soils of Varanasi (U.P.).
