The reactions of oxovanadium(V) trichioride and oxovanadium(V) triethoxide with dipicolinic acid (primary ligand, dipicH2) and several nitrogen, oxygen donor molecules (secondary ligand, N — OH) viz., picolinic acid, nicotinic acid, isonicotinic acid, glycine, aminophenol, o-aminobenzoic acid and p-aminobenzoic acid have been studied in anhydrous benzene. The reaction products isolated are of the types (VO(dipic)(dipicH)] and [VO(dipic)(N — O)] and have been characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic moment and infrared spectral studies. The parent complex [VO(dipic)(dipicH)] is found to have a seven coordinate, monomeric structure. A polymeric seven coordinate structure has been assigned for the mixed ligand complexes.
