A new empirical correlation between the observed first order rate constant, kobs, and tbe stoichiometric concentrations of the dicarboxylate anions, CL, was obtained in tbe aquation of chloropenta-amminecobalt(III) perchlorate at 40° in six different dicarboxylate solutions containing 10% ethanol. It takes the form
kobs = ko + c/d [(kobs)max -ko]. CL
where c and d are empirical constants of values 7.4 x 10-5 and 11.8 x 10-7, respectively. A reaction mechanism wbicb would explain the above equation was investigated.
