Sulphur elimination from natural iron pyrite (95.19 pyrite and 4.63% silica) from Amjhore, Bihar as well as synthetic iron pyrite with methanol has been studied in a fixed-bed tubular reactor in the range of 300-550° and 340-550°, respectively with the objective of developing a process for the elimination of sulphur. The effect of various process variables has been studied. 57.7% sulphur could be eliminated from natural iron pyrite under the optimum conditions.
