The complexes of CoII, NIII, Cull, ZnII, CdII and HgII with 3-amino-2-benzofurancarbonitrile (L) and 3-amino-2-benzofuranthiocarboxamide (L') have been prepared and characterised on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic moment, electronic and infrared spectral data. The various ligand field parameters like Dq, B', LFSE etc. have been evaluated for CoII, NiII and CuII complexes which suggest an octahedral geometry for each of them. Infrared spectral data indicate a polymeric distorted octahedral structure for ZnII, CdII and HgII complexes with the exception for HII complex of the latter ligand which may have a tetrahedral geometry.
