Description

Achmonia kapangana sp. nov.

(Figs. 36, 42–44)

Type locality. D. R. Congo, Lulua, Kapanga.

Type material. Holotype ♂: DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: “Musée du Congo, Lulua: Kapanga, V-1934, G. Overlaet” (MRAC). Paratypes 2 ♀: “Musée du Congo, Lulua: Kapanga, I-1933, G. Overlaet” (MRAC).

Description. Body length 9.5–13.0 mm; length from anterior margin of head to posterior margin of elytra: 6–7 mm. Head and pronotum black, scutellum brown, elytra yellowish to light brown, abdomen brown, antenna and legs reddish brown or brown. Head and pronotum very shiny, with micro-punctation. Head with setiferous postocular punctures (Fig. 36). Labrum quadrilobate, with moderately prominent inner lobes (Fig. 36). Elytra as long as pronotum, posteriad, slightly dilated and a little wider than the pronotum, with broadly rounded humeral angles; surface with fine and very sparse punctation, arranged in three series. Abdomen with transverse microstriation and fine, not sparse punctation.

Male. Tergite and sternite of male genital segment similar to Figs. 49, 50. Aedeagus (Fig. 42) length 1.3 mm, with median lobe long and narrow, truncate (Fig. 44); paramere long and narrow (Fig. 43); internal sac more or less visible and narrow, covered by fine scales.

Ratios (n = 3): HL/HW: 1.01–1.03 (M 1.02); TeL/EyL: 1.67–1.85 (M 1.74); PL/PW: 1.20–1.24 (1.22); EL/EW: 1.03–1.08 (M 1.06); PW/HW: 0.89–0.96 (M 0.94); EW/PW: 1.11–1.17 (M 1.13); EL/PL: 0.98–1.00 (M 0.98); A5L/A5W: 0.59–0.66 (M 0.63); A10L/A10W: 0.54–0.58 (M 0.55).

Differential diagnosis. Achmonia kapangana sp. nov. differs from other species of the genus by the larger, distinctly flattened head, which is markedly widened behind, the distinctly punctured temples and by the narrow, pointed apical part of aedeagus.

Etymology. The species is named after the type locality.

Distribution. The new species has been recorded only from Lulua, Kapanga in D. R. Congo (Fig. 1).
