Various derivatives from 3-acetylcoumarin are prepared: aminothiazole (9), coumarilic acid ( ), piperidone (12), quinoxaline (14) and naphthatriazine (15). Active methylene compounds react with the arylidene (2a, b) to give the cyclohexanone derivatives (4a, b, respectively). SeO2 on reaction with 1 gives the  αβ -diketon (13) which reacts with hydrazine to give 18. The antimicrobial activities of the products against different organisms are discussed.
