Description
Introduction: This study aims to assess the level of knowledge of full-term pregnant women about the anatomy of the genital organs, the menstrual cycle, the physiology of pregnancy and sexuality. Materials and methods: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted on a sample of 100 full-term pregnant women using a semi-structured self-questionnaire. Results: The mean age of the participants was 29±3.2 years. The mean age of first sexual intercourse was 22.5±0.85 years. The majority of patients (63%) were pauci-gestures. The correct answer rate was 3% for the vulva diagram and 17% for the female genitalia diagram, front view. For the physiology and function of the genitals, the physiology of the menstrual cycle and sexual intercourse, the correct answer rate was 4%. The physiology of pregnancy was 6%. Conclusion: Despite the scientific, technological and cultural revolution of the 21stcentury, Tunisian pregnant women seem to have a low level of knowledge about their female body, which is still burdened by taboo and mystery.
