Description
OVERVIEW OF THE INNOVATIVE TRAINING NETWORK “MEDIATING ISLAM IN THE DIGITAL AGE”
The MIDA project is to train 15 creative, entrepreneurial, and innovative researchers in social and human sciences through an interdisciplinary research programme, whose main objectives are to understand the tremendous influence that digitisation and technological innovations have on Islam.
The MIDA project is resolutely inter-sectoral, interdisciplinary and international. It is to foster research on Islam, and even expect to have a major impact on European policy and society. With Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions’ help, our emerging international network is structuring itself to become an essential actor in European innovative research in the field of Islamic studies.
MIDA ASSESSES THESE DEVELOPMENTS IN ALL THEIR DIMENSIONS BY FORMULATING THREE MAJOR QUESTIONS. HOW DOES DIGITISATION :
- Shape Islam (i.e. beliefs, practices, societies, activism, political organisations, social institutions, and outlooks)
- Modify the relation Muslims have with their past
- Modify and reorganise scholarship and research on Islam
PARTICIPANTS :
The MIDA project deeply involves non-academic actors to expand professional opportunities for the PhD students. These non-academic partners will provide scientific, technical, and communicational trainings, in order to produce new theoretical and practical knowledge on issues associated (rightly or wrongly) with Islam. The network involves 25 Interacting Participants.
