Red Sea main basin: Egypt (Klunzinger 1871, as Elops saurus), Eritrea (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1847a, as Elops saurus; Whitehead 1965), Saudi Arabia (Forsskål in Niebuhr 1775, as Argentina machnata; see Fricke 2008).
General distribution: Red Sea, Indo-West Pacific: East Africa east to Philippines.
