Description
Araneus coccinella Pocock, 1898 is a South African endemic described from a female collected in Estcourt in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Prior to this paper, the species was only known from the type specimen. It is a rare spider and is now known from a few localities in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo in South Africa. The aim of this paper is to add notes on the morphology of A. coccinella based on images of living spiders, and provide information on its behaviour and distribution.
