Manuscript received 26 August 1998

Brassinosteroids are a new class of phytohormones with their role as stress and pathogenic disease resistance in plants as well as high plant growth promoting activity. Due to their availability in minute amounts from natural sources and worldwide studies on the application of brassinosteroids for the enhancement of yields of variety of agricultural crops, there have been intensified research efforts towards the synthesis of this class of phytohormones. In this review, we have demonstrated our efforts towards the synthesis of brassinosteroids.
