The analytical characteristics of three new oxime-hydrazones are described. The reagents diacetylmonoxime benzoylhydrazone (DMBH), diacetylmonoxime isonicotinoylhydrazone (DMIH) and benzil-α-monoxime isonicotinoylhydrazone (BMIH) give yellow coloured solutions with cadmium(II) in borate buffers. The molar absorptivity and Sandell's sensitivity of CdII-DMBH, CdII-DMIH and CdII-BMIH are 1.6 x 104, 2.0 x 104 and 2.5 x 104 dm3 mol-1 cm-1 at 348, 346 and 362 nm, and 0.00712, 0.00562 and 0.00450 µg cm-2, respectively. BMIH has been used for the spectrophotometric determination of cadmium(II) in some biological samples.
