The synthesis and crystal structure of orange 2-aminopyridinium tetrachlorocuprate(ll), (C5H7N2)2CuCI4, have been reported. The compound crystallizes in \(P\bar{1}\) space group and contains discrete tetrahedral \(CuCl_4^{2-}\) species and 2-aminopyridinium cations. An extensive molecular association through the hydrogen bonding involving all the chlorine atoms is also observed in the crystallizing environment of the title compound.
